Privacy Policy

Last Updated: March 19, 2025

Thank you for using Droid Weather! This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our mobile application, Droid Weather ("the App"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring that your personal information is handled in a safe and responsible manner.

1. Information We Collect

a. Location Data

To provide accurate weather information, Droid Weather collects your location data when you use the App. This includes:

  • Current Location: When you grant location permissions, we collect your device’s precise location (latitude and longitude) to fetch weather data for your current location.
  • Searched Locations: If you search for weather in a specific city, we temporarily store the city name and coordinates to display the weather information.

b. Usage Data

We may collect non-personal information about how you interact with the App, such as:

  • The frequency of app usage.
  • The features you use (e.g., search, location updates).

This data helps us improve the App’s performance and user experience.

c. Device Information

We may collect information about your device, including:

  • Device type (e.g., iPhone, iPad).
  • Operating system version (e.g., iOS 18).
  • Unique device identifiers (for analytics purposes).

This information is used to optimize the App for different devices.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To Provide Weather Services: We use your location data to fetch and display current weather information for your chosen location.
  • To Improve the App: Usage data helps us understand how users interact with the App, allowing us to enhance features and fix issues.
  • To Personalize Your Experience: We may use your searched locations to provide quick access to weather data for those areas.
  • To Ensure Functionality: Device information ensures the App works correctly on your device.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not share your personal information with third parties except in the following cases:

  • Weather Data Provider: We use the OpenWeatherMap API to fetch weather data. When you request weather information, your location data (latitude and longitude) is sent to OpenWeatherMap to retrieve the weather data. OpenWeatherMap’s privacy policy applies to their handling of this data.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose your information if required by law or to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users or the public.
  • Service Providers: We may share non-personal, aggregated data with analytics providers to improve the App (e.g., crash reporting, usage statistics).

4. Data Storage and Security

Storage: Location data is stored temporarily on your device to display weather information. We do not store your location data on our servers. Searched city names and coordinates are stored locally on your device using UserDefaults to enable the widget to display the last viewed weather.

Security: We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Your Choices and Rights

Location Permissions: You can enable or disable location access for Droid Weather in your device settings (Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Droid Weather). If you disable location access, the App will not be able to fetch weather data for your current location, but you can still search for weather by city name.

Data Deletion: Since we do not store your data on our servers, you can clear all app data by uninstalling the App, which will remove any locally stored information (e.g., searched cities).

Access and Control: You can contact us (see Section 8) to request information about the data we collect or to exercise your rights under applicable privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).

6. Third-Party Services

OpenWeatherMap API: Droid Weather uses the OpenWeatherMap API to fetch weather data. When you use the App, your location data is sent to OpenWeatherMap to retrieve weather information. We do not control how OpenWeatherMap handles your data, and their privacy policy applies. You can review their privacy policy at https://openweathermap.org/privacy-policy.

7. Children’s Privacy

Droid Weather is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected such information, please contact us immediately, and we will take steps to delete it.
