Mnml Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 2, 2025
Mnml is a minimal, customizable home screen launcher designed for simplicity and personal expression. We are committed to your privacy. This policy explains what data the app uses and how it's handled.
Our core principle is privacy: **Mnml does not collect, transmit, or share your personal data.** All data you add stays locally on your device unless you explicitly use system features like iCloud sync (if enabled in the future) or choose to launch external apps/services.
1. Information Used Locally
Mnml needs to store some information locally on your device to function:
- App & Folder Configuration: The names, URL schemes, icon symbols, colors, and arrangement (order index) of the apps and folders you add are stored securely on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. This information is essential for Mnml to display and launch your items and is **not** sent to us or any third party.
- Customization Settings: Your preferences for layout, themes, backgrounds, icon styles, accent color, and visibility of features (like the clock or progress bars) are stored locally using standard iOS mechanisms (`@AppStorage`).
- Custom Background Image (Optional): If you choose a custom photo as your background, the app accesses your Photo Library *only* when you select the image via the system's photo picker. A copy of the selected image is stored securely within the app's private container on your device for display purposes. This image is **not** uploaded or shared.
- Health Data / Steps (Optional): If you enable the "Show Steps Indicator" feature, Mnml requests your permission to read your daily step count data from Apple's HealthKit store. This data is used *solely* to calculate and display the progress bar on your home screen. It is read-only, processed on your device, and **not** stored by Mnml or sent anywhere. Access requires your explicit permission via the standard HealthKit prompts.
- Network Status Information:** The optional Wi-Fi indicator accesses local network status information provided by the system to determine if you are connected via Wi-Fi. This information is not stored or transmitted.
2. What We Don’t Do
- ❌ **No Personal Data Collection:** We do not collect any personal identifiers or the functional data you store within the app.
- ❌ **No Analytics or Tracking:** Mnml includes no third-party analytics, usage tracking, or profiling mechanisms.
- ❌ **No Ads:** Mnml is completely ad-free.
- ❌ **No Remote Storage (by Default):** Your configuration data is stored locally. (Note: If you enable iCloud sync for SwiftData in your device settings in the future, Apple's standard iCloud terms and privacy policy would apply to that sync).
3. Third-Party Services & Data
- HealthKit:** Interaction with your health data is managed entirely by Apple's HealthKit framework according to the permissions *you* grant.
- PhotosPicker:** Access to your photo library is managed by Apple's standard PhotosPicker framework according to your permissions.
- SwiftData / AppStorage:** Data persistence relies on standard Apple frameworks operating locally on your device.
- Launched Apps/Websites:** When you tap an item in Mnml to launch another app (e.g., Safari, Mail, WhatsApp, your own iQuake/MapPic) or website using its URL scheme, you are interacting directly with that external app or service. Their respective privacy policies apply to any data you provide to them or that they collect. Mnml simply initiates the launch request via iOS; it does not intermediate or track data shared with launched apps.
- `LSApplicationQueriesSchemes`:** To facilitate launching other apps, Mnml's configuration (`Info.plist`) declares a list of common and custom URL schemes it might attempt to open. This allows iOS to check if a target app is installed before attempting to launch it but does not grant Mnml access to data within those apps.
4. Your Control & Data Management
- Permissions:** You can grant or revoke HealthKit and Photos permissions at any time via the iOS Settings app (Privacy & Security -> Health / Photos -> Mnml).
- Feature Toggles:** You can disable optional features like the Steps Indicator, Clock, or Progress Bars within Mnml's settings. Disabling the Steps Indicator stops the app from attempting to read HealthKit data.
- Editing Data:** You can add, edit, reorder, and delete your configured apps and folders within Mnml's management screen.
- Data Deletion:** Uninstalling Mnml from your device will delete its locally stored data, including your configured apps, folders, settings, and any saved custom background image.
5. Children’s Privacy
Mnml is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or equivalent minimum age depending on jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect any personal information. Because the app operates locally without collecting personal data, it is designed to be compliant with children's privacy regulations like COPPA.
